Agri-analytics
The idea for the Agri-Analytics Fellowship grew out of my earlier work with the Deeper Learning Institute, where I saw firsthand how project-based, hands-on experiences could transform teachers and students alike. I began to wonder what deeper learning might look like in higher education—especially in agriculture, where data now drives everything from soil health to food systems. That question became the seed for this project.
Drawing on my background in quantitative research and my collaborations with agricultural scientists and educators, I envisioned a fellowship that would bridge two worlds: agriculture and data science. With the support of $750,000 from the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), the fellowship now prepares students to navigate the data-driven future of agriculture with confidence, curiosity, and purpose. I received this grant as the Principal Investigator (PI) before leaving MTSU and continue to serve actively as a Co-PI at JMU, providing ongoing support for students and mentors.
Now, a Certificate Program in Agri-Analytics has been launched, the lasting legacy of this grant. More exciting news to come—stay tuned!
